BACKGROUND EXTRAS!! Guide Into the Film Industry
WANT AN EASY WAY INTO TO THE FILM INDUSTRY?
Don’t worry….I got you covered!
If you’re looking to do some acting and you don’t want to take the plunge and build a comp card, reel and/or find an acting agent, the next best thing to get you onto a film set quickly is by being a background actor.
A background actor or extra is a performer in a film, television show, stage, musical, commercial, opera, or ballet production who appears in a nonspeaking or non-singing (silent) capacity, usually in the background (for example, in an audience or busy street scene). They help make the production look and feel more authentic. After all, hospitals, concerts, and city streets would just look like boring movie sets without Background Actors to give them life.
So where do you even start you ask? I’ve worked in the film industry for over 5 years and I get ask this question all the time. So I figured, I may as well give you some insider knowledge as this is how I first stepped onto a film set. Before we get to the good stuff, I want to give you some helpful insights when you’re applying for these roles so that you can land your first gig with flying colors. Make sure you’re honest about your availability and also keep in mind that you will have to COVID test and be cleared before you can walk onto a set.
